What are free auto insurance quotes and how do I get one in the Columbus area? Is free really free?


Simply put, FREE auto insurance quotes are a bait and switch tactic - they are all free. I don’t know of anyone that charges for a quote. Do you? 

REAL auto insurance quotes are ones that you can buy right away, with, and this is the most important part, NO SURPRISES! We see it in our office every day, people call and tell us that that they received a FREE auto insurance quote from one of our competitors and it’s always a rock bottom price. We tell them, call that company back and ask them for a “binding” auto insurance quote. In the auto insurance business a “binding” quote is another name for what we call a REAL auto insurance quote. So you ask, how does Geico, Safe Auto, Allstate, State Farm, Nationwide and the myriad other insurance companies do it? It’s simple.......you call them and they ask for the bare minimum amount of information and in most case either don’t ask you about your driving history or ask you to tell them what you know about your driving history (here’s a secret....some agents don’t ask for your driver’s license number is that the company they are quoting charges them up to $5 to run a motor vehicle report - PER PERSON!)  They know that by asking the bare minimum their representative can give you a conditional auto insurance quote that represents their lowest price (and it saves them the $5 to boot!). And, in the vast majority of situations that conditional quote price is not even close to being a binding auto insurance price.

So what SHOULD they be asking you for?

  1. • Your driver’s license number so they can look at your motor vehicle report (MVR).

  2. • Your date of birth

  3. • Your social security number

  4. • Other people in your household that have a driver’s license

Social security number? Why do they need that you ask? Well, most insurance companies that sell auto or as some call it car insurance, create an insurance score that has a significant bearing on what you pay for your auto insurance. It includes but is not limited to your credit score, claims history, number of moving violations and number of at fault accidents
